I don't remember a time when I wasn't creating something. As a kid, I was always coloring, always drawing, always with a pencil or a paintbrush in my hand. Growing up through divorce, art became my escape... the one place where nothing was complicated and everything made sense. It wasn't something I did. It was just who I was. It still is.
Art was my lifelong pursuit, leading me through graphic design and hairstyling early in my career. I loved the creativity in both, but art kept pulling me back. It always does.
(I also got kicked out of college twice for making art my way and refusing to stay inside a box! 😝)

Life was pretty good until my thirties. I experienced a really tough pregnancy that ended in an emergency c-section that saved my son's life. Four surgeries in four years to put my body back together. When I thought I was in the clear, a cancer diagnosis arrived and changed the trajectory of everything. Two more surgeries and a really exhausting recovery. But through all of it, I kept coming back to the same place... a sketchbook, a canvas, my journal. I had to get what was on the inside out onto a page, and that's exactly where it belonged.
"I kept coming back to art no matter what life threw at me.
It was always there. It's my true life path."
That realization sent me deep. I pursued my Therapeutic Arts certification and spent years studying somatics, nervous system regulation, and mindset work rooted in neuroscience. What came out of all of that became The Sloane Healing Method™, a framework I built from everything I'd lived through and everything I'd learned.
For a few years, I worked with cancer survivors, teaching them how to use their illustrated journals and creative expression to heal and reclaim themselves and their lives. It was some of the most meaningful work I've ever done, and it changed me just as much as it changed them.
But 5 Dogs Creative Haus was calling. I named the studio after the five dogs we've been so lucky to raise and love, Meeko, Mouse, Miles, Rylie, and Shyloh. You can see them in the photo below!
Nowadays, you'll find me wearing graphic tees and Converse. I've become a little notorious for my Funko Pops and my very serious dedication to Batman. I'm also a huge animal lover and dogs are my tribe, hence the studio's name.
I embrace my inner child in everything I do, because I refuse to live inside a box or be serious all the time just because I'm an adult. Life's too short and precious for that.
Most adults are just kids who got talked out of playing and I'm here to talk you back into it!
